True Lies and Other Yarns
by Toowoomba Bush Poets

The poems and yarns in this book were written by the Toowoomba Bush Poets; a group of bush poetry enthusiasts from Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

The group holds regular informal meetings at the Cobb and Co Museum, 27 Lindsay St, Toowoomba City QLD, on the second Saturday of each month, between 10 am and midday.

For more information contact the group by email: ToowoombaBushPoets@gmail.com

or on Facebook: www.facebook.com/ToowoombaBushPoets/

The colour scheme for the book are a red/brown (remiscent of Toowoomba's rich red soil) and green (Toowoomba, the garden city).

The font for the title (Seal Mark) has similarities to a wool bale stencil and gives a nod to the spy/adventure theme suggested by the title.

The background image across the front and back is a stylised map of Toowoomba (Depositphotos.com). On the back the image fades into a sold colour to ensure that the text and logo are clearly rendered.

All poems are copyright © of their respective authors.

A look inside ...

The Introduction is typeset in different font to the poems: Bona Nova for the body text and Gyroscope Sans for the heading. The footer style is reminiscent of books from the early twentieth century.

This humorous poem, 'The Snore' by Catherine Cronin ©, is illustrated by light-heartened 'cartoon' style images.

Mary O'Brien's poem, 'A Bedroom in the Barkly', © is a wonderful ode to a life of droving: sunsets and sunrises, placid rivers and mulga scrub. Mary is the founder of 'Are you bogged mate?' an organisation to help country blokes talk about mental health and suicide while spreading awareness about depression in the bush.

A number of State libraries (Queensland, Victoria) have scanned historic photos in their collection. These have been made available through their websites for reproduction under Common Domain. This image is from the State Library Victoria.
